The Examiner/MMN Revue for Wednesday, September 15th

September 15th, 2010

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Blue Castle Games to become Capcom Games Vancouver – Almost like having a “Capcom Canada.”

From The Mega Man Network:

Mega Man Universe TGS Videos – Seeing Dr. Wily on the stage editor makes me want to create Honus Wagner Card Man and set him loose on the world. The Universe version of Wily also reminds me of Andrew Dickman’s “The Wily Show” shorts.

And via Twitter: “Capcom of Japan’s Rockman series site gets a makeover. ~Heat

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Tuesday, September 14th

September 15th, 2010

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Sony Japan files patent for device to play PlayStation 2 games on PS3 – What Sony taketh away, Sony selleth back to you, apparently.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

Nintendo of America joins Super Mario 25th bandwagon and Miyamoto comments on Mario’s endurance – They had me worried there for a bit.

25 Mario facts to celebrate 25 years – You might have read this at guardian.co.uk, but I’ve added some extra thoughts to a few of the facts given.

From The Mega Man Network:

Imagining the Possibilities of Mega Man Universe – Personally, I like the idea of the Wii version being a retail game which includes exclusive Nintendo characters, such as Mario, Link, Samus, and Pit. But these mock-ups of other Capcom alums are pretty cool, too. Props to on the art.

This Week: Mega Man 9, Maverick Hunter X 1/2 Off on PlayStation Store – Two great games for half the price. If you don’t own them already, what are you waiting for?

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Monday, September 13th

September 13th, 2010

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Games shipping the week of September 13th, 2010 – The heaviest hitters this week? Halo: Reach and Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

Leaked video shows the Xbox 360 dashboard of the near-future? – And I just got used to the last update, too.

PlayStation on the Move early? – Looks like Best Buy isn’t used to video game hardware having street dates. Or someone isn’t, anyway.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

The Nintendo Download – 9/13/10 – With today marking the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., it would have been a perfect time to roll out Yoshi’s Island. Alas, they didn’t… nor did they roll out anything else for Virtual Console. But at least there’s a new myNotebook.

Nintendo of Japan officially announces Super Mario Collection Special Pack, shows contents, ad – Looks like a straight port of Super Mario All-Stars. But at least we know what it looks like now.

European celebration of Super Mario’s 25th anniversary includes celebrity ads – I have no idea who any of these people are. But they like Mario (and quite a bit, by the looks of it), so they’re cool by me.

Japanese website for Super Mario Bros. 25th anniversary, plus History 1985-2010 video – Japan has quite a few things going on with the celebration. I wish that Nintendo of America was as on-the-ball as Europe and Japan for the occasion.

Fortunately, they did launch this rather late in the day, and it appears they’re just getting started.

Rumor: Nintendo 3DS release date leaked? – Could we see 3DS before the end of the year? One person who’s purportedly a developer of accessories for the device seems to think so.

From The Mega Man Network:

MM9 Downloadable Content Bundles, New MM10 Avatars Coming to PSN – If you haven’t downloaded these add-ons yet, maybe now is the time.

Rockman Gigamix 3 Arrives in Two Weeks – …in Japan, of course. Really hope that UDON is able to bring Gigamix to North America.

And from MMN’s Twitter:

A scoop? According to @ROCKMAN_UNITY “something green” will appear at the MMU stage show at TGS. What could it be? ~Heat #MMU

If it’s Teisel Bonne I just may explode. ~Heat #gettingyourhopesup

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Friday, September 10th

September 11th, 2010

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Toronto video game deals for the week of September 10th to 16th, 2010 – Lots of Halo: Reach stuff, including inflatable Halo swords at the Best Buy launch parties!

In spite of revamped Code of Conduct, Microsoft bans gamer from Fort Gay from Xbox LIVE – Plus, a list of other cities across the globe who should beware of being truthful of their whereabouts in their Gamertag profiles.

From The Mega Man Network:

UPDATE: Mega Man Universe Details from PAX – Just a minor update as to the identity of the artist behind the look of Mega Man Universe.

Capcom Unity Adds Mega Man to the Zazzle Store – I actually like some of these… compared to Hot Topic dreck such as “Say Hello to My Little Friend” and “I Beat the 8 Robot Masters!”, anyway.

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Thursday, September 9th

September 9th, 2010

Been busy with this, that, and the other lately, so not too much here today.

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Defence Minister MacKay speaks out against new Medal of Honor – No, that’s not a typo, but apparently how Canadians spell “defense.”

Yet another Kinect feature won’t be available at launch – At this point, I’m just waiting for them to chuck the motion controls.

From The Mega Man Network:

A Little Bonus Megamix Preview – Actually, this should be out now. Me? I’ve already read it– highly recommended. But would you expect anything less from Ariga?

TGS Attendees Get Equipped with “Metowel” And Playable MMU – A chance to play Mega Man Universe? That’s cool. A chance to deck out my head in a foldable, compact, sweat-absorbing cloth Metool helmet? That’s where I say “take my money.”

Rockman Online Reveals Duo, Beginning AreaRockman Online has looked pretty fan-service-y so far, and the inclusion of justice-crazed space-cop Duo only further cements the notion.

Roll Struts Her Stuff in New Kotobukiya Pics – More pics of the ultra-versatile Roll. No, not like that. Well, maybe like that, but– before this goes any further into the gutter than I had intended, I mean she can be decked out in her Mega Man 8 attire, or her attire from… well, the rest of the series, more or less.

Angry Mega-Metal Man is Coming to Get You in MMU Overview – At long last, Capcom has bestowed upon us an idea of what to expect from Mega Man Universe. Besides action reminiscent of the classic games, that is.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Look Who’s Back – I believe some of you will be pleased.

The RipTen/Examiner/MMN Revue for Monday, September 6th

September 6th, 2010

Okay, so I’ve fallen behind on things for obvious reasons. Here’s a quick catch-up post.

From RipTen:

Analyst Defends Xbox LIVE Price Hike as “Incredible Value” – If you need more ESPN and places to use Facebook and Twitter, that is.

Sonic Adventure and More for Xbox LIVE Marketplace in September – Possible Achievements for fishing with morbidly-obese cats? I can’t wait! (Seriously, I can’t wait… for all of it but that.)

THQ Reveals Additional Pre-Order Incentives for WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 – Neat stuff, but the one I like is the Tribute to the Troops arena. Wrestling in front of military men and tanks ought to give it that Street Fighter “Guile” stage feel.

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner: (most of these went up today)

Games shipping the week of August 30th, 2010

Toronto video game deals for the week of September 3rd to 9th, 2010

Bonus video game deals – Best Buy’s online only Labour Day sale – With a “u,” because it’s in Canada.

Games shipping the week of September 6th, 2010

EB Games/GameStop’s NHL 11 hosting launch party tonight with Mike Komisarek – If you’re reading this, then it’s probably too late for you.

Want to sound-off with Kinect? You may have to wait until Spring 2011 – See, Quebec? This is what you get for being so difficult. Though admittedly, this may affect far more Canadians than the ones who just want to leave.

Capcom’s Inafune comes out in praise of Canadian game developers – He just thinks we’re blue because we’re Mega Man fans. Just wait until he actually comes here and experiences the cold winter weather.

Actually, it’s kind of surprising that he gave them Dead Rising instead of Lost Planet, now that I think about it.

Microsoft raising prices for Xbox LIVE Gold memberships, but it could be worse – Believe it or not, Canadians seem to be getting the better end of this deal.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

The Nintendo Download – 8/30/10

DSi prices are dropping on September 12th; might this herald a 3DS Christmas? – If I didn’t know 3DS was coming, I’d be leaping at the DSi XL right now.

New Super Mario All-Stars release coming to Wii… in Japan – Sure, this sounds like old info, but there’s new info here, too. Namely, it is a port. But is there a chance that if it’s released in North America, we could see something more? We examine precedent inside.

The Nintendo Download – 9/06/10 – One game in particular this week yields numerous surprises.

From The Mega Man Network:

Servbot Bobble Budds in Nature – He’s like the Dan Forden of Servbots.

Nintendo Power Readers Rate Their Favorite Mega Man – Who is the Bluest Bomber?

Get Prepped for Mega Man Universe at PAX – PAX has come, PAX has gone, PAX has left us without any of these nifty-keen Mega Man Universe armbands.

Capcom Announces “Rockman Kai Arrange Shitemita” Soundtrack (Updated) – Tracks from the Classic series, minus 8 and 10. Where’s the justice?

Speculation Train: MMU a Kinect/Move Game? – What better way to make “your world, MEGA-FIED” than by actually “Mega-fying” your world?

Mega Man Universe Gameplay Trailer – Four trailers in all actually show what the game looks like. Have you seen them all? (Granted, the fourth is a composite, but it has new music.)

Mega Man Universe Site Updated, Reveals Mega Man 2 Cast – A closer look at who we can expect to see fill out this Universe.

Mega Man Universe Details from PAX – So what’s the deal with “Mega Man,” anyway? Well, for one thing, he may be more than a mere change-of-model from “Rockman”…

Kotobukiya Rockman Gets Boxed Up – This is what you’ll be looking for on the shelves of every import shop you know.

So, How Did “Bad Box Art Mega Man” Wind Up in Universe? – Capcom’s Seth Killian reveals all.

—————————

And as for me, I’m doing better. Not quite 100%, but enough to do stuff again.

The RipTen/Examiner/MMN Revue for Saturday, August 28th

August 29th, 2010

A better job today, I believe.

From RipTen:

Call of Duty’s Military Adviser Calls Out Xbox LIVE’s “Little B*stards” – A real American hero, this guy is. And admit it, you’re cheering for him on the inside.

Sony Not Expecting Big Move for Move When It Launches – So, in other words, Sony is just like everyone else.

From the Canada Video Game Examiner:

What the critics are saying about Metroid: Other M – It’s a rather mixed bag…

From The Mega Man Network:

Kotobukiya Blues First Look – Kotobukiya looks to continue their fine line of Rockman work, hopefully work that will soon be released over here. And in this case, work that will hopefully include the Break Man mask. I mean, come on, even the Kubrick had it!

–LBD “Nytetrayn”

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Friday, August 27th

August 28th, 2010

Well, unlike yesterday, at least I got a little done today. Not sure how tomorrow will fare, though.

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Toronto video game deals for the week of August 27th to September 2nd, 2010

From The Mega Man Network:

The Mega Man Olympics Confuses, Bewilders – What is this, I don’t even…?

It does make me want Mario & Sonic & Mega Man at the Olympic Games, though.

–LBD “Nytetrayn”

The RipTen/MMN Revue for Wednesday, August 25th

August 26th, 2010

From RipTen:

Fan Reimagines Sonic & Knuckles in Amazing Video – This rendition of the Mushroom Hill Zone’s second act is simply incredible. Interestingly, Sonic reminds me of the renders we had seen for the ill-fated Sonic X-treme. Too bad this isn’t “real,” per se. But I could see paying SEGA money for something like this. Like, a whole disc full of this, remaking all four Genesis Sonic games. Maybe some other stuff, too.

Kinect-ed Xbox Avatars Revealed – At first, I was a little worried about what a “more realistic” Avatar might be. Turns out, they aren’t so bad.

From The Mega Man Network:

More Mega Man Universe to Come at PAX? – Capcom says they’ll lift the curtain a little more on Mega Man Universe come the Penny Arcade Expo next week. Personally, I’m a touch skeptical… it doesn’t sound like they plan to release much, leaving the question of whether it will be anything to really go on.

–LBD “Nytetrayn”

The RipTen/Examiner/MMN Revue for Tuesday, August 24th

August 25th, 2010

From RipTen:

THQ Announces WWE Video Games Portal, Community Website, Xbox Avatar Items, & More – All kinds of cool WWE stuff is coming from THQ, including an exclusive blog written by The Miz and Xbox LIVE Avatar items. I just wish the D-Generation X outfit featured the cowboy hat for the full effect. Hopefully that will come as an add-on.

Mortal Kombat HD Kollection on the Way?Mortal Kombat‘s all today, Mortal Kombat all the way… Mortal Kombat‘s here to stay.

It’s just a rumor right now, but word is that before the latest Mortal Kombat hits next year, we could see a high-definition remake of the first two games, as well as Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I am down with this, so long as they can do something about even the easiest computer opponent being cheaper than a two-dollar whore on double-coupon discount day.

Spector Reveals More Behind the Mouse’s Non-Change in Epic Mickey – Were focus groups, fan outrage, or the spirit of Walt Disney himself the catalyst behind Warren Spector’s decision to remove the “Scrapper” and “Hero” versions of Mickey Mouse from his game? Not according to him; he accepts full responsibility, and told Nintendo Power exactly why.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

What would you pay for a vintage NES game, mint-in-box? – Not what this guy is asking, unless I’m rich well beyond my needs. That said, there are a few games from back in the day I wouldn’t mind having mint, sealed copies of. In addition to those named within, I can also say I’d love a mint copy of E.T. for the Atari 2600– imagine holding in your hands a perfect (so to speak) copy of the game which brought an industry to its knees in America.

From The Mega Man Network:

Capcom Store Special on Mega Man Kubrick/1UP Bearbricks – Too rich for my blood, I’m sorry to say, but maybe some of you would appreciate the discounts and bonuses?

Mega Man vs. Street Fighter – Mega Man has apparently had it with all of these so-called “Street Fighters” hogging all the Capcom glory and appearing in crossovers with other companies. He’s going to show the World Warriors how they handle things oldschool. Well, older-school. Actually, they came out the same year, but he is supposed to be the unofficial mascot, dag-nabbit!

–LBD “Nytetrayn”
