Doing so many things… I’ve decided it may just be better to post them separate from the usual Twitter fun.

As some of you might have noticed, I’ve been retweeting the stories I do on RipTen, which among other links gets compiled into a digest here. On the other hand, maybe you haven’t noticed, and therein lies the question: would you all rather I continue posts like this one, which compiles the articles separately, or would you rather keep it with the Twitter feed stuff?
In addition to the above, here are the Toronto video game deals for the week of July 2nd to July 8th, 2010 on Examiner.

I had been under the impression that, thanks to sites such as The Consumerist, “secret menus” at fast food establishments were a fairly well-known commodity… just not often spoken of.
For those unaware, the “secret menus” are usually items which the chain in question might have once carried, but no longer do… at least, that’s what you would think if you were to glance over the menu posted over the registers. Such items are typically made with fare they carry anyway, just arranged a bit differently. And since they have the materials but no promotion for it, the items become something of a “special request.”
Whoops, forgot to post these from yesterday.

I had thought that the Twitter digests were rounding up my Retweets as well, but that is apparently not the case. Lance is looking into it, but that means my recent retweets of the news I have posted at RipTen have not been showing up here.
Oh, did I forget to mention I’m now doing news for RipTen? It’s true; I’m still keeping options only, but it helps keep me in practice, and should be good for some extra money.
Anyway, here are the stories I’ve posted so far this week:

Before there was Nintendo Power magazine, there was the Nintendo Fun Club newsletter. And much to my regret, that was before my time in becoming a lifelong video game hobbyist.
Indeed, I came into the world of video game magazines with the first issue of Nintendo Power, and missed the Fun Club newsletter completely. I’ve been with the magazine almost solidly since, save for a seven-month span leading into the first issue of their 2005 pre-Future revamp (volumes 187 through 193) in which I could not afford to resubscribe, as well as the period in which I rode the coattails of my wife’s subscription.
And personally, I would love to get my hands on those seven issues, as well as the Nintendo Fun Club newsletter. It’s too bad that they didn’t have eBay back when I first got on board, because I bet it would have been handy, and probably cheaper than finding them now.
Fortunately, the 1UP Retro Blog has a decent compromise for me in its latest article, The Paper Trail: Nintendo Fun Club News (Part 1). I may not have gotten to read the NFC newsletter, but at least now I can know what went on in each edition and revel in the small-press charm each of the seven issues that went to members before Nintendo upped the ante and rolled out all the news that you can use in Nintendo Power.
Maybe someday I can fill out these few holes in my collection. But for now, I’m going to read and reminisce while wondering if there is some sort of lifetime rate for subscription.
Before video game demos were commonplace enough that you could play them in your own home, SEGA devised a way to get people into the holiday spirit with one of their flagship titles for the Saturn known as Christmas NiGHTS.
Bob Mackey of the 1UP Retro Blog has written about this little gem here, revealing it to be more common than I had imagined. This, despite the fact that I myself had a copy, but never a Saturn to play it on. Such was the result of my subscription to Game Players magazine at the time; I still have the disc around somewhere, but its jingle-belling levels and exclusive Sonic the Hedgehog scenario have never been experienced by me.
In addition to Mackey’s own look into Christmas dreams, Blaze Hedgehog has also recently posted a few YouTube videos of the game being played through:
