The Examiner/MMN/AMM Revue for Thursday, May 5th

Whew, been out of things for the past couple of days, but here is the full recap of what’s been going on.

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Ontario woman begins her own class-action suit against Sony – Or, as news sources in the U.S. tend to put it, “Canada Sues Sony.”

Straight Shooting with TVGE – 5/4/11 – More Sony high jinks, football video games leading to more aggression than violent games, and Portal Tetris.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

Nintendo drops Wii price, forms “Nintendo Selects” value lineup – You can do worse than $20 for Animal Crossing: City Folk.

Straight Shooting with CNE – 5/4/11 – People hate Toon Link, 3D Classics, lots of Zelda/Ocarina, and more.

Straight Shooting with CNE – 5/5/11 – Nintendo goes to the Smithsonian, Super Mario 3DS, micro-sized Donkey Kong, and more.

From The Mega Man Network:

The Last Mega Man Commercial in North America – Reminds me of growing up…

More on Japan’s View of Mega Man’s Popularity – Capcom explains their plight.

A Quick Note on the Mega Man Comic – Denied?! No, just delayed (unless you subscribed, perhaps).

MM2 Snags Honorable Mention in Smithsonian Vote – Which isn’t too bad, considering the winner for that category was Super Mario Bros. frickin’ 3.

Art Buster: The Mega Man Tribute Fanbook – Were you not among the few, the proud, the published? Then you may want to have a look at this.

From the Archie Mega Man Blog:

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

Notes from Iwata’s GDC keynote address – Some fun and exciting news from the President of Nintendo himself, Satoru Iwata, including…

Nintendo President reveals 3DS Super Mario at GDC 2011, plus analysis – …a new Mario game! And while that in itself may not be surprising, the nature of this new title could still be. Check out these observations as the few images we’ve seen are picked apart by yours truly.

From The Mega Man Network:

A Look at Mega Man Legends 3?s Development (Update) – Now with an English developer’s blog update!

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Wednesday, February 23rd

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Okay, I kind of slept through last night’s update… so here’s a double-dose for you.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

Nintendo 3DS launch titles revealed (Update) – Now you can know for sure whether or not you should get in line on March 26th.

A closer look at the Satelleview and BS Zelda games – We mentioned this a couple of days ago in speaking of The Legend of Zelda‘s 25th anniversary, but 16-Bit Gems has provided this much more comprehensive look at these rarest of rare Zelda titles.

Black/White Nintendo DSi Pokémon bundles officially announced – Just in case you weren’t sure; these bundles do not seem to be exclusive to Canada nor Toys R Us.

From The Mega Man Network:

Mega Man Battle Network Official Complete Works Scheduled for March Release – Rumors of a delay have been greatly exaggerated (for now).

Blockman DASH Needs YOUMinecraft plus Mega Man Legends sounds like a winning formula, but development of this has hit a snag. See what you can do to get things rocking and rolling again.

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Monday, February 21st

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Games shipping the week of February 21st, 2011

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

The Nintendo Download – 2/21/11 – While there are some other titles to be had, we’d like just the Fax(anadu), ma’am.

Bundle up with Nintendo DSi and Pokémon Black/White at Toys R Us Canada – Whether or not the U.S. will get these remains to be seen, but wow, that March 6th release date sure seems awful close for no official announcement, doesn’t it?

The Legend of Zelda turns 25 – o/~ It’s The Legend of Zelda, and it’s really rad…

Know what else would be really rad? If Nintendo found a good way to celebrate it. Sure, having Ocarina of Time 3D (meh) and Skyward Sword is cool and all, but like Super Mario Bros., it would be nice to have something which really celebrates the roots of the series. And we’ve got just the thing…

From The Mega Man Network:

Zero as Your Minimate – It’s funnier if you can imagine Zero with an Australian accent.

X Sitting Pretty in MVC3 Fan Popularity – Maybe we’ll finally get to see a battle between Mega Man X and X-Men… Mega? Um… well, you see what I was trying to do there, right?

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Thursday, February 17th

Friday, February 18th, 2011

More like early Friday, February 18th, but who’s counting?

For those who found the hands-on with the 3DS games to be a bit too overwhelming, however, there is now an alternative, as I have split up most of it into individual hands-on articles. These are largely the same content, but now in smaller, bite-size chunks (and with more pics per title).

So have a look, and find out what let me down about Nintendogs + Cats, what lifted my spirits in Pilotwings Resort, what is painfully disappointing about Kid Icarus: Uprising, and more.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

Hands-on with Nintendo 3DS: Nintendogs + Cats

Hands-on with Nintendo 3DS: Pilotwings Resort

Hands-on with Nintendo 3DS: Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

Hands-on with Nintendo 3DS: Kid Icarus: Uprising

Hands-on with Nintendo 3DS: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

And from the conclusion of the article from which these came:

All in all, I really enjoyed my time with the system. A launch line-up has yet to be finalized, and so I don’t know if I can say this is something gamers will want to have on Day 1. But even so, I firmly believe that over time, just as with the DS before it, the 3DS will definitely be a gaming device which will be worth owning.

And that’s not just because of the highly-touted, eponymous 3D feature, either. It’s simply fun.

From The Mega Man Network:

“Supermor” Model Kit Report – This Vile model kit may be gold-plated, but it’s not gold-standard.

At Long Last, the Valentines Blues Winners – Who succeeded in capturing the grand prize? Click to find out, and to see all the awesome art of those who entered!

The Many Mighty Cameos of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 – Warning: Spoilers lurk ahead!

The RipTen/MMN Revue for Saturday, August 22nd

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Well, it’s a bit early today, isn’t it? Nothing on the Examiner front, though that will change tomorrow. But here is what else I’ve been working on…

From RipTen:

Live and Let Live in Metal Gear Solid RisingMetal Gear Solid has stood out from other such games by allowing you the choice of how much lethal force needs to be used, and Rising is poised to continue that tradition… albeit with a slight twist.

The Legend of Pants – Just a “for fun” article I wrote which takes a look at the (de?)evolution of leg wear in Hyrule.

From The Mega Man Network:

Rockman X6 Prototype Escapes Containment – Okay, so Heat Man wrote this one. I’m still including it. Simply put, it seems that if you thought there was no way Mega Man X6 could possibly get any worse, then you’ve yet to see it in its incomplete form.

The Examiner/MMN Revue for Saturday, August 14th

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Taking a little time from working on RipTen regular to work on a feature… the past two days have been lacking in that department. Here’s the rest of what I’ve been working on:

From the Toronto Video Game Examiner:

Decorate your Xbox LIVE Avatar with Scott Pilgrim – Shirts, outfits, gear, and a possible impending lawsuit from Nintendo await within.

From the Canada Nintendo Examiner:

Super Mario Bros. movie gets DVD re-release – Thanks to , I have no need for this. But if anyone else ever wanted to own a copy of what essentially is to Super Mario Bros. what “SatAM” is to Sonic the Hedgehog (only far less revered), now you have the chance.

Don’t expect much conversation from Link in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – People may soon learn more than they ever wanted to know about Samus, but don’t worry; Link is going to keep the meaning of “hyah!” and “gyaiiii!!!” to himself.

Super Mario Bros. 3 and the wide world of Nintendo’s e-Reader – Seriously, it may not be a crime for Nintendo to withhold all of the great e-Reader stuff from us, but it should be. Admittedly, they did try to give it to us, and we pretty much rejected it… but come on. The requirements were a bit much. Couldn’t they have at least put a cartridge slot on that thing?

Hopefully they won’t let the investment in developing it go to waste, and release it as a WiiWare or DSiWare title of sorts. Or they can follow Capcom’s example with Mega Man Zero Collection, and release the entire thing on the DS, e-Reader stuff included.

From The Mega Man Network:

Amazing Robot Master Collage is Amazing – Gobs of Robot Master goodness, and all in the Powered Up style, too!
