The Daily ‘Shroom

  1. Hmm, Pac-man and Tetris on iPods?

An interesting concept, but I don’t see it holding a very broad appeal except among those with perhaps a twinge of nostalgia who don’t want to invest in a dedicated portable.

  2. So if you actually care about Evangelion(it seems to be a series one either really gets into, or just remains largely indifferent to), you’ve probably heard about the new movies that are in development.

“Of the four upcoming films, two will essentially retell the original story, combining footage from the series with new backgrounds and soundtracks. The third and fourth movies will be entirely new stories, progressing from the first two and (hopefully) tying up all those loose ends into a satisfying conclusion.”

Hell, I may give the first one or two a shot. Maybe the movie format will be more engaging to me.

  3. Tomorrow, IGN will have some impressions of Mortal Kombat Armageddon, but for now, co-creator Ed Boon talks a little about moving the franchise into the new generation, starting by closing off this part of the saga.

“Boon mentioned some of the reasons behind the elimination behind some characters. “In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, we wanted to end a number of things, actually. We wanted to end this chapter of the story. This is the last Mortal Kombat on this generation of consoles, and we also wanted to end this kind of fighting mechanic for Mortal Kombat.”

I must say, I am rather curious to see what the new fighting mechanics entail, as well as where the story turns.

  4. Following up on yesterday’s story about the PSP Bundle Pack with ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin’ Trails, a UMD movie, and a 1GB Memory Stick, IGN has revealed that the movie included will be Lords of Dogtown.

    Um… yay?

…oh, who am I kidding? I really couldn’t care less. If I didn’t have a PSP already and I decided to get this pack, I’d probably just trade the movie in.

  5. If you’re looking for a cheap-but-unique experience for your Nintendo DS, then it may please you to know that Cooking Mama shipped today, and is going to retail for a mere $19.95.

Might have to give that a shot.

  6. Following up on their Anima Crossing: Wild World Mario item promotion at Toys R Us, Nintendo.com reports that on September 30th, visitors to TRU from Noon to 3pm will be able to download Mew to certain Pok?mon titles.

Click the link for all the specific details, and you too can unleash the power of Mew!

  7. Go Nintendo reports that Hudson is working on 30 games for the Virtual Console, with some to be available at launch.

    Sounds good to me!

  8. Go Nintendo also reveals some rumors from Famitsu, including the possibility of a Wii Gundam game and new Yuji Naka and Hideo Kojima projects.
  9. Once again, it’s TransFormers Tuesday, and the TransFormers the Movie 20th Anniversary DVD website has updated to give us a sneak-peek at the DVD’s main menu screen.

Quite nice, I wonder how it looks in action…

Yes! Thank you, finally an official press release from Nintendo about the Mew giveaway. Until now all we had was a tiny blurb in Nintendo Power and all the web sites citing the same article but trying to look like they weren’t. And of course, when I e-mailed Nintendo about the event, they DID give me some of the info here that wasn’t in the article, but left out some VERY key details:

-You need to have a Pokemon to trade, and won’t simply have it downloaded onto your game.
-You will need the National Pokedex in Emerald (I SPECIFICALLY asked them about this, and they said you didn’t).

Man, Nintendo… Really, get more together with your special events. I also asked them why I didn’t receive notice of this via a newsletter, even though I was signed up for all the Pokemon ones. All they could tell me was, “Go here and here and here in order to sign up for newsletters to keep up-to-date on the latest news!” Thank you, Canned Answer Man.

Shinkuu> Personally, I prefer talking to someone with a pulse by phone when I ask this sort of thing. ;)

  4. Shinkuu Says:

Yeah… But that doesn’t mean they’ll be any more informative! I actually did get some good answers from real people via e-mail, but like I said, they just left out some MAJOR details, even when asked directly. So they answered to the best of their knowledge, but just weren’t knowledgeable enough, I believe…

At least that canned answer was the only one I got… But still!

Wow, thanks for the Pokemon news, Monsieur Nytetrayn. I would likely have missed that otherwise, and that would have been a shame.

You’re right, Shinkuu, it would be nice if they’d get atop their special events a little bit more, but at least they’re having them all over the country again, rather than just Chicago, Atlanta, someplace on the west coast, and NYC- I still don’t have a Deoxys, Ho-oh, or Lugia of my own.

    (2) – Evangelion is a trap for preteens/teens that are lured in by its melodrama, animated violence, and T&A, and artless irrelevant symbolism. *gasp* omg DEEP. An icon of everything that’s wrong with anime. Seeing blatant Evangelion clones like Rahxephon and Eureka Seven has killed it for me. Or was it the other way around. Or was it just the shitty End of Evangelion movie that got waaay too into itself. Godamn Evangelion, I resent ever having like the show at one point. Plus the animation is shamlessly generic for an anime. hate you evangelion, HATE YOU.

    (4) – Wow, in a weird twist, I can’t decide if the movie or the game is less appealing. Sony is shoving moderate mainstream/hip/teen/skater culture down our mouths with this. Do they just suck at picking titles? I was wondering if they did this to drive home their mainstream-like image. But the only person who I imagine would be impressed would be preteens/teens who feel embarassed about getting a DS. (perhaps their younger sibling has one) But as someone pointed out, those people probably already have a PSP by now.

I still think 50 Cent G Unit + Get Rich Or Die Tryin would have been a more appealing bundle. (altho admittedly, too rated-R for a bundle)

Then better yet, Need for Speed + Fast and the Furious.

Or more realistically, Spider-Man movie + A LIKEABLE GAME

    (5) — Cooking Mama huh… This game looks adorable. Someone get it.

    (7) — Bomberman?
