- Personally speaking, the Wii has me more than covered for my gaming needs. I have quite a few games I’ve yet to complete, with many more I’ve yet to even purchase. That said, I still manage to go for stuff on Xbox 360, DS, and occasionally the PSP as well.
And even so, there are still a number of franchises I would like to see come to the Wii. Sure, we’ve got Mario, Zelda, and Metroid in full force, with some nice revivals of the Excite and Punch-Out!! franchises, but Nintendo still has a whole list of other B-list franchises that would do wonders for filling in the gaps without necessarily overwhelming the offerings of third-parties.
- I’m as guilty as anyone of enjoying sequels, although I’m quite willing to give something new a shot as well. Even so, a familiar face is a nice thing to see when it comes to gaming, but some faces which were once familiar aren’t so much anymore.
It is these classic franchises which 1UP looks back at and tries to suggest appropriate updates for in their feature, “Sequels We Want, and the Formulas They Need.” Sadly, they kind of drop the ball on the first go by not realizing that Adventure Island had more than two games in the U.S., but the revival idea and those behind others are much more solid.
I especially like the idea for Rampage, summed up in three simple words: “steal it back.” Personally, I’ve thought for a while that a Rampage game not unlike Hulk: Ultimate Destruction would be ideal.
As for Strider, I’d love a game which features the NES version’s exploration, power-ups, and items, combined with the combat style of the arcade original.
- Snakes… it had to be snakes.
While I only like seeing snakes in real life if there’s about a foot of glass between them and myself, I am a bit more tolerant of them in fiction. There are a number of cool snake creatures and snake characters in comics, cartoons, and of course, video games. And it is that last one which Zangaroa Blog takes a look at as they count down the Top 10 Snakes in Gaming.
…wait, no Snake Man? Come on, if Solid Snake could make the list… anyway, at least Tryclyde got a pretty good spot.
- Mario is a man of many talents, though I’m not so sure “Paper” and “Baby” should really count. If we’re going to count those and Hotel Mario, we should probably add cartoon star, movie star, and comic book character to the list. I think they left out race car (not just go-kart) driver, too.
- Seriously, KFC? You’re going to introduce us to a “sandwich” comprised of cheese, bacon, a “Colonel’s Sauce,” with two pieces of chicken acting as the “bread?”
If it was grilled chicken patties on the outside, we could at least attribute it to being healthy in an Atkins Diet sort of way, but as it is? I can’t ever imagine possibly eating more than one of those in my life.
- Look, I can understand being lonely, but to write off human relationships entirely for romance with a pillow? I’ll stick with my loving and lovably-geeky wife, thanks.
