Points of Interest – 8/17/07
- The Red Priest of orchNEStra sent me this little tidbit: a quilt that goes on and on.
Does it eventually stop? Or does it loop?
I have no idea, nor the patience to find out. But it is a neat visual trip.
- I remember Marble Madness, and so does ScrewAttack.com.
Sadly, the game didn’t leave a good impression on me, as I only got to play the NES version, which was of course sans trackball, so I never got the “true” Marble Madness experience, and to this day, would still like to give it a go.
Incidently, wasn’t it amazing how fragile those marbles were?
- Gametrailers interviews the producer of The King of Kong, who explains how the idea became a movie, and IGN has their own little chat with the cast and crew.
And if anyone hears about it playing in Ontario, I’d LOVE to know.
- Fighting for freedom, wherever there’s trouble… there are few things more American than GI Joe, the daring highly trained special mission force whose purpose is to defend freedom against Cobra, the terrorist organization determined to rule the world.
…which is why it’s so interesting to see what happens when GI Joe goes Japanese.
I think my favorite part is that in the part of the logo replacing “Joe,” the symbol still looks sort of like a “j.”
- With Metroid Prime 3 due very soon, and the original Metroid showing up on Virtual Console this past Monday, is there any better time to show the TV commercial for the original game? I think not.
- CRACKED.com has assembled a list of who they think are the 7 most useless TransFormers ever.
Pfft, whatever. Computron was awesome, and immediately discredits the list.
- It kind of sucks that Star Fox 2 never saw release. And it’d be a damn fine use of the Virtual Console, too, to offer the game for cheap.
It was practically finished, too. You can see what it would have been like for yourself here.
- What’s it take to make someone the worst person in the world?
Well, you could eat kittens, for a start. Or, you could just say America needs another 9/11, that seems to work as a pretty good qualification, too.
- Clowns are so passe’ (but I still like them, so nyeh). This is the 21st friggin’ century! If you’re going to throw a party, then there had better be robots!
- Glitches are kind of neat, I guess. So are remixes. So combine the two, and something neat might just happen!
This is a pretty nice rendition of Mega Man 2‘s soundtrack. Be neat if Capcom were hiring.
- Movies based on TV shows seem to become more and more common every day, many adapting a classic series, and occassionally some go to theaters while the show is still on the air.
Transitions in the other direction seem less common, however, but they certainly do exist, maybe more than you realized. IGN singles out their ten favorites.
…I had no idea that Alice was based on a movie.
- So, about that Brain Age 2 DS Lite bundle… pretty nice, huh?
- Capcom’s newly-revamped Mega Man site has gone live, with a few additions since we last looked at it.
- A few days ago, we brought forth news of a neat little time-waster in the Atari 2600 Label Maker.
Today, Game|Life caught wind of it, and has offered some other ideas for potential application of your creations.
Hope someone makes an NES one soon, complete with optional “_____ Series” icons.
- Whooooole lotta crap goes down in the Mushroom Kingdom, as Chris Kohler has discovered and decided to share.
One of my faves:

Subject: FAO: Keanu ReevesDear Mr. Reeves
I am a Goomba on the first level of world 3 of Super Mario Brothers 1, and a long-term fan of your work. My job requires me to spend long periods of time with a fixed expression of mild anxiety on my face, but I find it very stressful to do this for more than a few hours, and the temptation to use some other facial expression becomes very great.I am writing to ask if you have time to give me a few pointers, since I have seen you in several films and you seem to have been wearing the same fixed anxious expression since 1990.
With respect and thanks,
Goomba #112
- In other Game|Life news, Mr. Kohler has finally had his interview with Mr. Uwe Boll, who claims he is no Ed Wood, and that Kohler is not a good journalist.
Meanwhile, Boll shows that he is clearly not a good conversationalist.
Damn, this thing premiered in Toronto yesterday? I had no idea. Damn!
- Oh, wow.
World of Warcraft x He-Man = viable way to reignite the franchise?
I laughed, though, I really did. But in a “wow, that’s funny but cool” sort of way.
