Points of Interest – 8/16/07
- Sometimes, it’s easy to become a fan of a video game character, without ever having played one of the games that they appear in.
Somewhat to my regret, that’s become more and more the case for me and those wascally Raving Rabbids, the breakout characters from Ubisoft’s Rayman series. Just seeing them cause chaos on MTV, for example, doesn’t cease to crack me up.
Not only can I not wait for Raving Rabbids 2, but I still need to play the first as well. I’ll likely aim for the Wii version of course, given the sequel will also be exclusive to it. I wonder why that might be…
Ah, those wacky Rabbids… is there anything they can’t do? Well, besides that.
- While the concept isn’t completely without precedent, this game that allows you to play as the Ghosts from Pac-Man is pretty nifty.
- The Official TMNT Web Site has added volume 1, #7 for your perusal and enjoyment.
- Huh, I wonder what the Inafune fanboys are going to think of this.
- Hmm, now this is something I’ve considered myself: why game trilogies suck.
Though I never looked at it so much as being specifically trilogies, but thinking back to Mega Man X8‘s ending, it really sucks that there are no plans for an X9 to help tie that up.
Incidently, Metroid Prime has been a trilogy, though part of a grander Metroid series overall. How much of the above do you think applies to this one?
- 1up’s Jenn Frank takes a look at what some film producers have to go through just for their movies to even be able to be seen (usually the crazier stuff like Postal), and maybe why they’re a little crazy when it comes to some critical… criticism, especially of the sort from ratings boards.
- I’m not even sure what to think of these knock-off Wii remote video games.
Do I pity the poor soul who might fall for such a ruse? Do I laugh at them, and hope it makes them smarter? Or do I curse them for, deliberately or not, buying such an item that would only further encourage Wal-Mart and pirates to continue this chicanery?
Eh, I’m a guy who appreciates the buffet lifestyle and likes a little bit of everything, so I’ll go with all three.
Even so, I guess there are worse, maybe.
- CVG dives into a demonstration of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, hoping to see fire from their eyes and blood from their bodies, but instead finds a solid game featuring friendly competition.
Good? Bad? Or just a reason to hope Sakurai doesn’t disappoint us in Smash Bros. Brawl?
- Wow, the Blockbuster World Video Game Championship II Donkey Kong Country cartridge, now on eBay.
That one brings back some memories; I actually had the best score in my age bracket at my local Blockbuster back in NC, and got “a year’s worth of free game rentals” as a result, which really only amounted to two per month for the year. It makes one wonder just how much they think someone who would win something like this would play video games.
Specifics notwithstanding, I do feel a little ripped-off, since despite winning I never got to go to any sort of higher level, which I think was a bit suspect.
Wish I knew what I did with my certificate, though…

At this stage, I’d recommend simply hiring rayman raving rabbids or finding a cheap second-hand copy. It was a decent launch title, but even then it was only really fun in multiplayer (and most of the minigames are turned-based, not simultaneous play).
It’s fun to play once or twice, but after that it gets kinda boring

Heh, “hiring?”
But yeah, I’m in no shape right now to get a copy, anyway, especially with the prices for games around here. But if I find a cheap copy…
