Since we cannot know all that there is to be known about anything, we ought to know a little about everything. -- Blaise Pascal

Points of Interest – 11/16/06

  1. Well, I know I wish there were a K-Mart around here now.
  2. GameDaily seems to like Excite Truck moderately well, citing its more for casual gamers.

I dunno, I’m fine with simple, as long as simple is good.

  3. SEGA finally has something happening with their Sonic and the Secret Rings webpage.
  4. More Iwata Asks.
  5. 1UP reviews Sonic the Hedgehog, giving it a stinging 5.5.

Can Sonicteam sink any lower? And how will Secret Rings fare?

  6. Toastyfrog takes a look back at past launch lineups in anticipation of the Wii and PlayStation 3, to see if past mistakes will rise once more.
  7. Elsewhere, Scott Sharkey gives you 10 (better?) ways to spend your $600.

    2. Trust me, Excite Truck is fun. However, that review seems more or less dead-on. I was disappointed with the crashes, too. But know what? The game’s not about the crashes. It would have been really cool, but it’s no big, in my opinion.

I dunno, though. I don’t think I’d consider myself a casual gamer, but I still keep coming back to play it… I may not be an “I must master this game!” freak, but I am sort of an “I must unlock everything!” freak. And like I said, maybe I just SUCK, but it looks like it’ll take me a while.

One thing… I don’t see how they can blame the game for shoddy controls. I mean, I attributed it to my own early lack of skill with the game. I’m still slipping and sliding around, but I’m doing it a lot less than when I first started playing. This game is really sensitive, so you can’t make big flailing motions like you’d want to. But yeah… since there’s no drift (power slide) button like in Mario Kart, you may end up sliding at times you don’t want to. But I think the gas and brake can help. I just usually don’t care, crash into whatever, and pound it for the re-entry boost…

But yeah… I was disappointed it wasn’t four-player. And although it sucks it’s not online, I see that being fixed over time. Maybe with an Excite Truck 2? It could be this game was rushed a bit, but at the same time I think they’re probably just polishing up the WFC for Wii. Rather than rush both the WFC and the Internet playability for the game, they probably opted to just exclude online play for now.

Pokemon will be the first Wii game to go online! Then, Smash Bros. Brawl. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more games online by then.

    7. Oh, and I don’t know what it is, but that entire article was just hilarious.

    6. Oh, and me again… 1up.com hates me, seriously. Those were great articles, but the PS3 totally neglects the PS2′s DVD player and the PS3′s Blu-Ray. The DVD playback, couple with those other factors, made the PS2 a killer. But Blu-Ray playability may actually hurt the PS3 this time around… Heck, who knows where Sony would be now if the PS3 went with DVDs and didn’t push so hard for Blu-Ray? Not saying Blu-Ray is useless, but will it be worth their trouble?
