The (Almost) Daily ‘Shroom
Ok, sorry I missed out on the update yesterday. There have been… complications. But this page isn’t about that, it’s about stuff going on, and so I’ll get on with that.
…and before that, let me just add that I have NO plans for this to be a regular occurrence. Today’s update is taking me FOREVER to do. TGS doesn’t help, nosiree Bob.
- NinjaTurtles.com, the official TMNT website, has an update that might interest you if you collect the figures, specifically the Fast Forward bunch:
“The latest shipments of Fast Forwart TMNT and Splinter figs have been packing extra weapons in the clamshells (the first waves only packed them with their regular Ninja Tek weapons and that’s it) ..the latest packs seem like a better deal and i guess are kinda ‘variants’.
Dunno for sure. Leo for example comes with 2 extra sets of blades ..a naginata style staff blade and 2 shuriken.”
Personally, I’ve yet to even see the regular TMNT Fast Forward figures in my area, which is too bad, as they’re more affordable than most stuff I get and I’d really like a Leonardo.
- After a brief downtime, The Allspark is back with a new frontpage, and on that front page they have an exclusive interview with the legendary voice artist Frank Welker, who’s voiced everyone from Megatron to Soundwave, Rumble, Dr. Claw, Bowser, Freddy from Scooby-Doo, and various animals for numerous shows and movies, including The Simpsons.
- Also from The Allspark’s forums comes a bit of good news for fans of SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog, as the show is finally coming to DVD in early 2007, and with bonus features in tow.
…but it probably won’t be found in Canada. NAFTA my ass…
Anyway, it’s being produced by Shout! Factory(who made the C.O.P.S. and Super Mario Bros. Super Show DVDs) as a 4-disc set encompassing all 26 episodes
- The Mega Man Network brings word from the Tokyo Game Show regarding Mega Man news, naturally. Unfortunately, there have not been any new games announced, but Ryuusei no Rockman finally has a US title.
So far, I’m the only one who seems to like the name. I guess after various Power Rangers incarnations and TransFormers Galaxy Force, I’m used to it, and what with some of the similarities to the former…
- Atomic Fire also brings further news for the Ryuusei no Rockman website, including some movies of the game from TGS.
- GameTrailers brings all sorts of new stuff. And believe it or not, some of it here is NOT related to the Wii!
Phoenix Wright: Justice For All TGS trailer, Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded(I’ve never known a trailer for a game to promote cheats before…), Spy Hunter: Nowhere To Run review(despite the reviews it’s getting, it doesn’t sound particularly BAD, per se), Ninja Gaiden: Sigma TGS trailer, Sonic the Hedgehog TGS trailer, and DOA: Xtreme 2 TGS trailer.
- And speaking of XBox 360′s upcoming Sonic title, egg was kind enough to link me to another trailer which shows off more of the gameplay, and even a glimpse of Blaze the Cat.
The video is also hosted at Sonic Style, along with some Sonic Rivals art and a new Sonic and the Secret Rings trailer.
- GameSpot adds more Sonic love with two new gameplay movies from the PS3 version of the title, both featuring Silver.
- Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis is reviewed by GameSpot, getting a respectable 8.2 out of 10. Unfortunately, they gave the original an 8.0, but that was from a different guy, so I’m still uncertain on this one.
- Some details about the Ninja Gaiden port/upgrade to PS3 have arisen, thanks to GameSpot and Famitsu.
- More GameSpot trailers: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, MegaMan: Star Force(placed under MegaMan Battle Network 5 Double Team for some reason), and Gyakuten Saiban 4(Japanese name for the Phoenix Wright games).
- Hmm, now this is good. IGN rips into Sony on their TGS presence, and about the PS3-PSP connectivity specifically here.
IGN: “And your boss, he told you to make wave motions with your hands, gesturing from the PS3 to the PSP, and call it a technical demonstration?”
Booth Babe: “Hai! Ah, yes!”
IGN: “And other people have passed by here for two days now without questioning this?”
Booth Babe: “Hai!”
IGN: “…Please marry me anyway.” - Remember how, in a way, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children was supposed to be a killer app of sorts for the PSP?
Well, it seems they’re trying it again for Blu-Ray with a special edition “director’s cut” style edition.
- You thought Battle Network was over? Well, you were wrong.
Eh, sorta. IGN covers Rockman.EXE 6: Beast Link, possibly a Japan-only release with few available details that sounds reminiscient of Rockman.EXE 4.5.
Dammit, I wanted a DS version of Battle Network 6 akin to the one for 5.
IGN also takes a peek at MegaMan: Star Force as well.
- Also at IGN, they take a closer look at Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360, with a little bit of hands-on as well as a better look at Shadow’s role, which seems to be more vehicles and less weapons than his last outing. This seems to do away with the idea that he’d be PS3-exclusive, and also serves to seemingly justify why he would commandeer vehicles in the first place.
And as one of about… 4 Shadow fans out there, lemme say I’m glad, though it sounds like he may have a rougher road ahead of him.
- GameDaily takes their shot at The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and gives their two cents on what they think, which actually casts the first shadow of real doubt on the game from the press.
Will the GameCube version be the way to go, after all? Maybe not, as Matt from IGN seems to feel the game is fine.
- Next-Gen reports that “Microsoft has confirmed that failure rates for the Xbox 360 launch batch were ?higher than usual,? but the company is offering free repairs and refunds to make up for it.
Good news, generally speaking.
- Proof that Sony doesn’t care what you think?
They’ve recently announced that they are lowering the price–in Japan only– of the lower-end model, and adding HDMI to it as well, due to consumer outcry over the pricing.
And are being ridiculed for it. No pleasing some folks, I tell ya’.
…granted, I don’t follow Japan all that much, believe it or not, but I think people in America and around the world have been pretty damn vocal about this as well, no doubt every bit as much as Japan has. Where’s our price cut?
I bet no one would bad mouth it here, either.
Oh well, whatever. I’d rather have a 360, anyway.
- Don’t remember if I mentioned this before, but to be safe: If you didn’t get ahold of Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for the Nintendo DS, then you’ll soon have another chance.
- Go Nintendo also links to some neat Ubisoft stuff, including a peek at their GBA TMNT game.
- For those digging sound systems and such, you might be happy to know that Dolby is supporting the Wii.

(15) — Shadow’s movelist sounds awesome. I just hope they fixed his skating animation, which looks totally weak in the clip I linked you to.
A hang glider? Awesome.
There are plenty of Shadow fans like us, just not that common in these internet circles were it’s standard to hate things like this.
(16) — Take that, Nintendo!
(18) — That is a serious thorn for Xbox 360′s chances in Japan. I wonder how this will turn out.
(19) — Hey, I didn’t know that this game was sold out. Oh well, nice to know about the reprints, considering that I’m getting a DS. 8|

Not completely true. Though in less formal settings, Luke Smith from 1UP has been saying for at least a couple of months that he feels like the Wii Twilight Princess was hamfisted into the Wii format and doesn’t feel as natural as it should (say, as natural as Super Mario Galaxy, which everyone raves about). This might ordinarily be enough to scare me into getting the GC version, but considering it’s Luke Smith, who calls the Wii “a fucking peripheral” as often as he can, I take his opinion with a grain of salt.

Indeed, hence why I didn’t consider it.
…that, and well, he’s Luke Smith.

4. “So far, I?m the only one who seems to like the name.”
No you’re not. With this series being the first that comes with an original Japanese name instead of letters or a name, I was really curious with what kind of translation they’d come up with. I think Star Force sounds in no way disappointing (albeit a bit like a space opera title), unlike the Granule Awareness nonsense…
September 24th, 2006 at 11:25 am
Blah, forgot to include this…
21. Not really surprising. GC technology came with Dolby PLII support, which is basically just a stereo sound format that 5.1 decoders put out as pseudo-surround sound. Since it was standart with GC, Wii not to support Dolby PLII would actually be a step backwards.

Splash: 4) Good to know there are others. To Capcom’s credit, they did rename Rockman.EXE, sorta. Whether that was good or not, I’m unsure, but it makes naming an RPG easier. Pity it didn’t carry over so well to other media.
I personally think M.E.G.A. was alright, given the circumstances. And while I disagree with the renaming of Rock to Mega in Powered Up(an admitted mistake which I’d like to see how they’d remedy later), I think short of Legends’ MegaMan, Rock ought to remain unique to that character, with Mega Man being the title passed on. And Meta-Encapsulated Granule Awareness is probably as good as anything they might come up with in that regard, or at least as well-received.

It turns out that EXE 6: Beast Link might be an error on IGN’s part, and may be nothing more than a collection of the EXE 6 games with some kind of Beast Link thing. I have no idea what any of that eReader/Gate stuff is, so, I’m only going by what others are saying on RPM.
