Six Degrees of Seperation from Rumbling

o/~ It’s my controller, and it’ll rumble if I want it to… o/~

I think this may actually qualify as “old news,” since it sounds rather familiar, but the gist of it is that the PS3 controller COULD rumble, but in all likelyhood won’t. Sony says that rumbling gets in the way of the motion sensor(rofl), but Immersion says that they’ve made a way for the controller to rumble without interfering with the motion-sensors.

I guess the problem stems from the fact that Immersion developed the tech that made the PS1 and 2 controllers rumble, but Sony ripped them off, leading to litigation.

Of course, it sounds like the Wii has no trouble mixing the two, and that one has far more freedom of movement than PS3′s six-degrees. All the same, for what’s dubbed an industry standard now, it’s interesting that, in Sony’s own words, they seem to have opted for tilt-tech over rumbling.
